I Want to Know I Have a Purpose
When Allan was growing up in Costa Rica, he didn’t know any Deaf pastors. He’d never seen God’s Word signed in his language. Like many Deaf children, he was part of a hearing family that loved him deeply but didn’t know how to communicate clearly about faith.
He often sat in church surrounded by people who could hear, but he couldn’t understand the sermon. He knew God existed, but he didn’t yet know God’s story or his own place in it.
When the Gospel Was Signed
Everything changed the day Allan met a Deaf missionary who told him about Jesus in sign language.
Allan also learned that God not only loved him but also had a purpose for his life. The Deaf missionary helped him realize it was possible for a Deaf person to become a missionary or a pastor.
From Learner to Leader
Allan began studying Scripture in sign language with this Deaf missionary. He quickly realized that God was calling him not only to follow but also to lead. He then joined DOOR International’s leadership training program.
My heart breaks for the many Deaf people still waiting, just like I once was. I can’t be silent. I must share the gospel with other Deaf people.

Purpose You Can See
Today, Allan serves as DOOR’s International Disciple-Making Director, mentoring Deaf pastors and missionaries across almost twenty countries. He teaches in sign languages from around the world and helps new believers see that purpose is something you can understand and share.
Through Allan’s leadership, Deaf churches are being planted. Those churches are led by Deaf people finally confident in their purpose. And Deaf believers who once felt forgotten are discovering that God’s story includes them.
Pray and Reflect
Allan’s story reminds us that understanding brings purpose, and that Deaf-led ministry changes lives.
This week, will you pray for Deaf missionaries and pastors like Allan who are helping others discover God’s purpose through His Word?
