I Want to Know Who Sees Me

When Jared was a boy in Kenya, he often sat in church with his family, surrounded by hearing believers. The songs were beautiful, and the preacher spoke passionately, but Jared couldn’t understand a word.

He knew God existed, but the message wasn’t reaching him. He was present but unseen.

I grew up going to church, but there was no interpreter, and there was no Bible in sign language.

For years, Jared wondered what it would feel like to know God’s story for himself, to understand what others seemed to experience so easily.

When the Gospel Was Signed

As a teenager, Jared met a team from DOOR International who shared the gospel in Kenyan Sign Language. For the first time, he saw the story of Jesus in a language his heart could understand.

In that moment, the Word of God stopped being distant and became visible.

When I saw the stories in my language, I finally understood. I realized that God sees me.

That realization changed everything.

From Unseen to Seen

Jared soon joined the Kenyan Sign Language Bible translation team as a signer. Years later, he became a translation consultant, helping Deaf teams across Africa translate Scripture into their own languages.

Today, he supports translation teams who travel to DOOR’s Kenya campus from all over the world, helping others discover what he once longed for: the assurance that God sees them, too.

Seen and Known

Through Jared’s ministry, Deaf people who once felt overlooked are now finding that they belong in the body of Christ. They’re seeing Scripture for the first time in their heart language and realizing that God has always seen them.

Each story Jared helps translate is another reminder of God’s love for His people, whether Deaf or hearing.

Pray and Reflect

Jared’s story reminds us that God sees every heart, even the ones the world overlooks.

This week, pray for Deaf believers across Africa who are translating and sharing God’s Word in their own sign languages, so more people can know they are seen by Him.
