From Fear to Faith

When a DOOR survey team was on a trip to *Kai, they met a Deaf man who recently became a Christian. He told them the story of his transformation and we thought that it was too good not to share with you.

This young man was immersed in the family religion as a child and his immersion continued throughout early adulthood. This religion was an idol worshipping religion that terrified him. The people’s acts of devotion were done out of fear. And fear was the only message conveyed to this Deaf man. His communication with his family was very limited, but he understood this one thing. Their religion and their worship was rooted in fear.

As a child, and growing into early adulthood, this young man was immersed in the family religion.  A terrifying idol worshipping religion. Every act that was done was out of fear. And fear was the only message that was conveyed to this Deaf man.  His communication with his family was poor, but he understood one thing – this worship and religion is based on fear.

One day, after years and years of being terrified, he gets some relief.  A friend brings him to church and starts explaining the love of God to him – in his own language.  Finally, something he could understand. Finally, something that wasn’t based on fear. Finally, someone who loved him. “I was overwhelmed by the love of God. I got goosebumps. I felt peace in His love.”

DOOR’s work is to bring this love and peace to all the Deaf people in the world. So that they can finally live in faith, not in fear.
