Joel, a Deaf evangelist living in the Rugombo region of Burundi, traveled to Ikinu to meet four Deaf people who lived in that town. They studied the story of Cain and Abel together during one of their sessions. The next time Joel visited, one of the Deaf men shared his testimony.
“After we watched the story of Cain and Abel, I kept thinking about how angry I’ve been with one of my younger brothers.
“He isn’t Deaf like me, and I’ve been mad at him for a long time because I feel like he dishonors me constantly. There is a communication barrier between us, and he doesn’t make any attempts to understand me.
“But after I saw the story of Cain and Abel, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I didn’t want to harbor feelings of anger and sin towards my brother. I started praying to God to help me change my attitude towards him. For God to take away my anger. Over the past few days, I have felt much better.
“The incredible thing is that I am noticing a change in my brother’s attitude as well now that I’m not as angry at him. I see that God’s Word is changing my life. Please pray for my brother to come to know Jesus too.”
Burundi only has 110 passages from the Bible translated into the national sign language. Pray they might get even more passages translated into their sign language, and pray for more disciplemakers and Deaf-led churches to take root in the country.
